This month the YKK London Showroom window display is host to the conceptual work of designer and artist, Jas M. B.
Curated by Jas Sehmbi and YKK London Showroom Creative Director, Kei Kagami, the work will be displayed in the showroom window front, alongside the videos showing the concept and process behind the pieces from 30 April till 4 June 2016.
The exhibition called ‘Concrete Jungle’ includes six concrete handbags which represents the city as a concrete jungle. Each piece symbolizes a different aspect of the city life: Baguette, Laptops, Drink, Trends, Light and Consumed.
Asked about the inspiration behind the concrete bags, Jas says: ‘My exhibition is an expression on the concrete jungle that we all live in, through my eyes’.
‘The unique thing about this exhibition is that it lets our products speak for themselves within the context of an abstract object. This time it is more like a crossover between fine art and YKK products. There is an experimental approach to see the products from a different angle, breaking the traditional image of the brand. Zips can become part of the art object, elevating them to artistic objects themselves. This is a highlight of the exhibition and an alternative image of the brand.’ – says Kei Kagami, YKK London Showroom Creative Director.
